I wonder if we even look much like people,

Let’s say the sun slides behind the mountain
or plows into a cloud, then the cold drops in fast,
but who cares, the sky is beautiful. Banks of clouds
bask in the bright, full, fall light.
Hey, I like to say to the others,
look at the clouds roll over the mountains
like so many little hills!
They aren’t listening.
They say they are making their peace.
What do you take me for?
Don’t yell, they say, they will hear you in the lobby
and take away our privileges away.
Oh, just look at their new sneakers,
the goody-goody white and their blue blue hair.
Now that’s depressing.
Here’s what I think I’ll do: smack them.
Not hard, but hard enough to bring them around.
Then lift them out of their chairs
