Welcome to Writing Boots

Welcome to Writing Boots, a writing blog for people who want to write books.  Writing a book is a significant achievement.  It takes time, dedication, commitment, energy, and a willingness to show up to write, over and over again, until the book is finished.  This blog will consider how to:

  1. Create a reliable, ongoing writing practice.
  2. Choose a writing process that supports your vision for the book.
  3. Select and apply literary techniques to express your and your characters’ voices as accurately as possible.
  4. Read as a writer.
  5. Generate a publishing strategy and get published.
  6. Follow up on all the crazy marketing and publicity necessary to support your book post-publication.
  7. Keep writing during the maelstrom of your life, no matter what stage of the writing journey you’re on.

Since Writer’s Dojo is a literary fiction, poetry and essay website, I’ll keep most of my blog entries here focused on fiction, poetry and essays.  However, I spend a lot of time working with folks who write non-fiction, so if you have questions about non-fiction, please feel free to post a comment and I’ll do my best to reply in a future blog entry.

About me: I’ve been coaching writers since 2004 and have helped bring seven books into the world, along with audio books and CDs, and numerous websites, articles, and masters theses.  A certified somatic coach and Associate of Strozzi Institute and a certified Skills for Change Coach through Julia Kelliher, I’m currently writing my unpublished magnum opus, a children’s fantasy novel about the epic battle between good and evil, co-writing a young adult novel, and several non-fiction projects.

Thanks for reading.  I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
